Fr. Philip Ramos, A.M.
I was born and grew up in the Philippines. When I was growing up, I wanted to become a veterinarian. I planned that after High School I would go to a veterinary medicine school and become a veterinarian because I love animals. My goal in life was to follow my dream and to be happy and to become a very good veterinarian. I imagine people would call me Doctor Phil and my parents would be proud of me.
After I graduated High School, I was looking for a University to go to. I was determined to follow my plan. Yet God had a different plan for me. A priest invited me to consider seminary life. I was surprised – I said – what?
I went home and I asked the permission from my parents to attend a discernment seminar in the seminary for one week. They allowed me because it’s only for one week. Initially, I was not sure I would continue on. Yet that discernment seminar touched my soul and I put God first before my goal. I allowed God to guide me. I entered in the seminary year 2002 after High School and continued on. I was so glad I allowed God to guide me and my parents were also the reason why I wanted to become a priest. They planted the seed of love in my heart and now its bearing fruit that I wanted to share my life for others. After eleven years in the seminary I was ordained priest in 2013 in the Philippines. After my ordination I was assigned in the Seminary as formator for the seminarians. I arrived here in the United States in June 2017.
I let go of my ambition to be a veterinarian. I let go of all I want for myself, and I always ask God to help me in the vocation he gave me, and this year 2020 is my seventh year as priest. I’m happy as a priest. I’m happy to share my life in doing service for others. I’m happy and excited to work as Catholic Campus Minister at Stockton University.
